SOLD OUT la clandestina df is pleased to announce our Day of the Dead Tour (Saturday, October 22 – Saturday, November 5, 2016), hosted by Rick Hall.

The Day of the Dead Tour begins in Mexico City with a late afternoon comida in one of Mexico´s most famous restaurants. Sunday will be spent exploring Mexico City’s historic center. On Monday, we leave for Toluca to visit the Feria de Alfeñique in Toluca. This is, by far, the largest fair selling wonderful sugar creations that will adorn many of the ofrendas in homes throughout Mexico. We then travel to the city of Puebla, where we will visit several museums and ex-convents along with Barrio de la Luz: this is where generations of families have created clay candle-holders and incense-burners which are used in many areas at the gravesite. After Puebla, we make our way into the mountains to the charming colonial town of Cuetzalan. While in Cuetzalan we will visit a number of home workshops where the artisans will show us their techniques in weaving, embroidery and candle-making. We will take a day trip to the pre-Columbian ruins of El Tajín (which flourished from 800–1200 A.D.), In Cuetzalan, we will experience Day of the Dead by visiting private homes and the cemetery to experience mestizo, Nahua and Totonaca traditions. We then make our way to Huaquechula to see the incredibly ornate ofrendas unique to this town. We end our tour in Mexico City with a special farewell dinner. This trip not only combines traditions of Day of the Dead, but an insight to the folk art and cuisine of the areas visited.
